It's been a couple weeks since our last post - things have been - shall we say interesting around here!
To make a quick trip through our last few weeks - highlights -
C & E had space camp with the ISU Adair County Extension & Outreach!
There was a blood drive at the church.
A & H finished out their mornings of summer school.
I hit lots of Farmers' Markets in Greenfield! Come check us out every Thursday from 3-6PM on the southwest corner of the square!
We hit family movie night at the Greenfield Public Library! It was so much fun! Anna does a great job having not just a movie, but snacks and some coloring pages too! Follow their
Facebook Page for the most up to date info about activities! (Facebook title is /Greenfield-Public-Library-)
Then we had a birthday party at the Grand Theatre! This is one of the best ideas ever!!! It was so much fun! Only $75 to rent the whole theater - hello party for the kids come January!!! One rental - all the friends - no gifts - sounds pretty fabulous to me!
C & E attended another camp with Extension & Outreach & loved it! The learned so much about being healthy and active! It was super fun to hear about the things they learned.
We attempted Vacation Bible School at Greenfield United Methodist Church...sadly we have decided this will be our last attempt. The church is so gracious to provide this free opportunity for the kids in the community to learn about God! Our kiddos just don't handle it well, and the last day ended with a scary situation with Emilio walking about halfway home
on the gravel and dirt roads because he was sure he was left alone at the church. I'm considering getting the kids these watches for days they have camps or activities so if there would be an emergency they would be able to reach us!
Then we attempted to camp at Orient Lake, but the site we chose had some electrical issues. However, we were able to cross of the awesome new park there at the lake! Oh goodness friends!!! It is SO much fun!!! There is a piano on the playground!!! The kids were so exited and are already begging to return! I was so busy playing with them we missed any pictures! We didn't end up staying the weekend camping as planned, so we headed home Saturday.
We hit up Greenfield for the 4th of July activities! It was great! The kiddos rode their power wheels through the 1st part of the parade & won 2nd place for the kids' parade! After the parade we (the farm) hosted the Kids' Power Wheel Races with additional sponsorship from Southern Iowa Vending, Jeff & Tanja Wiggins! It was so much fun - we had 8 racers come & ran 4 shoot out style races! The kids had so much fun!

After racing we wandered around the square & went through the Ag Adventure event. The kiddos tried beef sticks (not a hit for the girls) and hard boiled eggs on a stick (a hit for all!) They showed us how to ear tag a stuffed calf - which C showed us how to give it a pill for when it's sick. Then we pet a piglet held by our favorite pig show-woman Taylor! We learned that we are terrible at guessing costs of supplies! But - we had lots of fun playing in the "corn box." We also thought the homemade ice cream at the end was pretty fantastic!
Then super bummer - we missed the fireworks because we all fell asleep before 9PM!
That brings us up to today - so the kiddos worked hard cleaning up & picking up the house this morning - so rewarding this afternoon! We headed north on an adventure!
This park is a first - first for us! Even dad & I hadn't been to this one!! A zip line!?!?! The kids took turns (mostly without fighting!) and would've done this for hours! Plus we learned that they have camping spots too - have you figured out where we went?

Hmmm - If you guessed Adair (Shawna Herr!) we followed your suggestion! This park was fun!

This is the coolest see-saw ever! They also have separate little vs. big play areas! We enjoyed the plentiful seating for mom & dad to watch & there are plenty of trees so the equipment wasn't hot and there was shade for the kids to play out of the sun! The bathrooms were nice & clean plus it's all pretty level, so we are considering a weekend getaway to the fabulous town of Adair, Iowa!

And finally an evening in Adair means we get spoiled by daddy at the amazing Zipp's Pizzaria!!! Voted best pizza in Iowa!!! Locally owned by Jim & Tammy Zimmerline :) They have basic pizza and all kinds of delicious specialty pizzas!
After eating we headed out to the Jesse James historical site we saw when we were garage sailing! Daddy told the story of Jesse James and the gang. The kids played on the railroad tracks that are there and we captured a picture with the train wheel! The kids asked all kinds of questions and we had to go online to learn more. There is a book that is written by his son apparently that receives good ratings -
if I had more time I would buy the book (for real?!?! kindle option is only $.99) I love reading about people in our country's history good & bad!
Or if you're more like us and have more fun watching about history - check out this movie - apparently this is how the hubby knows so much!
Either way it was fun to teach some history to the kiddos & they actually enjoyed it! Thank you to Adair County Conservation for this special place to remember our history - even though it isn't a good memory!

Who knows where our travels will lead us next!!!
