It has been over a year! 2020 had one whole blog post. COVID took a toll on life everywhere. We stayed home & just picked up to-go food. We didn't visit parks or camp. We did the show & go Adair County Fair and the Madison County Farmer's Market. It was a day by day year. Masks, no masks, cloth masks, procedure masks...
The best part of this pandemic was that everything slowed down and we spent so much time together as a family. We were very lucky that we were able to make many additions and improvements on the farm and we are so happy we finished it before the supply prices skyrocketed.
But anyhow...you all don't care about all that mumbo jumbo! You want to know where we were on the road! This post has two separate locations on two separate weekends!
April weekend out! My beautiful cousin Jasmine got married to the love of her life in Kansas City. We made a trip of it, taking off Friday and coming home late Saturday. We got to spend some fun time with Uncle David eating a mid-afternoon meal at Char Bar. It was a great little restaurant - had a wonderful outdoor patio with lots of bags/cornhole game sets. E challenged Uncle David and lost big time! But everyone had so much fun. We headed back to the hotel and got ready to party. It was a great night of food, family, and dancing! We were so blessed to welcome Anthony to the family. In typical Rubio fashion we had a great plan for the sleeping arrangements. But...the children weren't able to hang as long as grandma, grandpa, and Uncle David. We headed back to the hotel earlier, but all of us ended up falling asleep in our room - daddy had 3 small people in his bed and I had 2 in mine! Saturday morning, E got to wake up Uncle David and I think would call it the highlight of his trip! We ate at the Big Biscuit for breakfast, which filled up everyone. On the way home we stopped off at the Jesse James Birthplace and Museum. This was very neat. There was so much to see. The weather was not the best, but we made the best of it! The kids especially thought it was fun to tell the people working there about the trip we took to the site in Adair! The one lady working didn't even know it existed.

The 2nd weekend was Memorial Day Weekend! We have a post from 2019 about our not so wonderful experience at the Orient Lake. Well let me tell you...this go around was 100% different! The Adair County Conservation Board and employees have done awesome! They have an intern on staff this summer and she did fabulous! She had a Dutch oven cooking workshop which was so interesting! We learned so much and the food was delicious! There was great fishing for the hubby and kids! A & Cj both caught their first ever fish! B caught a baby painted turtle, even. The campgrounds, shower house, and lake grounds were so clean and trimmed. The kids went for a walk on the mowed path around the lake. We had no problems with electric or water for the camper either! We will for sure be back down to Orient to camp!
