Well hello again all! I don't know about you, but our house is going stir crazy - the wind is preventing outside playtime and there are only so many activities one can do indoors...plus the boss is home from pushing snow & is trying to nap!

-so far the little people have "sledded" down the stairs on a tote lid (not with permission by the way...the pillows were there to "save" them...only one head bump from this activity!)
-we have played in the water balls that are magic - they were tiny, white & red, hard plastic and now they're bigger, clear & pink, squishy, and wet...yep...science!
-we've trashed the house & cleaned up - making a fort
-we ate lunch - mom's new recipe...SIMPLE! medium egg noodles, cooked per package & drained; 2 cans tuna, drained, 2 cans cream of celery, 1 can diced carrots & 1 cup shredded cheddar jack cheese! mixed & when is warm eaten...2/5 kids had 2nd servings! 1 kid was sure the carrots would hurt her & thumbs up from the other 2 :)
-now we are "not napping" watching the movie Hop on Disney+ app thanks to Verizon's free for a year plan!
While they do all this, I have been reading (yes!), cleaning, cooking, rearranging the family room, and thinking...so I am working on a way to support Adair County Tourism without leaving the house. A friend posted on Facebook looking for a place to rent for a birthday party...last spring another friend posted looking for a place to host a graduation reception...last summer someone posted looking for an indoor venue to rent for a family reunion...
So - here is my thoughts...and please make comments on my post if I've missed something...I have wracked my brain trying to come up with a full list of places in Adair County to rent for gatherings - I have included cost estimates of anything that I have read or heard, but like it says these are ESTIMATES! I have also added where or who to contact for rental - please keep in mind that I am NOT a professional and I am NOT responsible for errors...but please let me know & I'll update my post!
Okay I thought it might be easiest to start by location...And 1st thing is that I have no info on rental locations in Adair...so if anyone has info please let me know & I'll add them here.
So starting in Orient;
The meal site building; I believe it is around $50 to rent & you contact City Hall for rental.
The Methodist Church also rents their hall, but I don't know how much for; I think you can call Pastor Cathy for information.
I don't know if the Plymouth Congregational Church has any type of hall, I believe there is in the downstairs of the church.
I know that you can also rent the space above the bar & I'm guessing Kramer's Cafe too...Talk to Kramer's for info.
The Henry A Wallace farm isn't "in town" but has an Orient address. They have the beautiful Harvest Barn for rental. I've seen it used for everything from family dinners to weddings! I have no idea the cost, but their website is https://wallace.org/country-life-center/
There is the Hebron Methodist Church, I don't believe I've ever been there, but I know lots of people have been married there...I would guess it has an Orient address, too.
Then moving onto Fontanelle;
The community building - I believe it is $60ish and you talk to Amanda at City Hall
Both the Lutheran & Methodist Churches have halls that I believe are rent-able. Pastor Cathy is also for the Methodist church in Fontanelle & Pastor Steven is a the Lutheran church.
16 Oaks is the newest facility on the east side of town...I have no idea how much it costs, but it is another "anything" option ... graduations to family dinners to wedding receptions I believe have all been held there.
Into Greenfield:
We have SO many options!!
I believe every church has a space that can be rented. St. John's is $50 if you're not a parishioner...contact is me :) - other churches are the Gospel Chapel (across from Steen Funeral Home), the Presbyterian Church, Cornerstone Church, and the Lutheran & Methodist churches.
We have the Community Center building with the upstairs and downstairs rooms - I don't think this building is handicap accessible though; you contact the Chamber office for rental info. Across the street is the City Hall meeting room. I think it's $30 or $40 to rent, but I don't think food is allowed...I'm not sure.
There is the Mary Wise room at Hotel Greenfield which is beautiful! There is obviously hotel rooms to rent here too! The only hotel in town!
There is the Masons Hall - I think it's called, but I don't know if you have to be a member to rent that building...
There is the entire Warren Cultural Center building - from the gallery to the green room then upstairs to the main auditorium. Last I knew it was $75 or so to rent upstairs...I hadn't looked at anything else. The website is http://warrenculturalcenter.com/ and I'm sure there is more info there on rental and who to contact.
Then there is the Andrews Memorial Room at the Adair County Health & Fitness Center. Last I knew it was $50 to rent during regular hours...I don't think the kitchen is included in the rental though...you'd have to ask on that one. I believe you can also rent the whole facility gym & all, but I don't know how much that costs. I would assume you call the desk.
There is the Adair County Fairgrounds - I believe rental rates & such have changed since we rented it last, but it is a fabulous open space inside and out are available for rental as far as I know! I've seen weddings at the gazebo, receptions in the building, and I've even seen the campgrounds rented for wedding guests, along with the arena...
There is a Church at the Historical Complex that I've seen used for weddings - I don't know details on this, but there is also a nice outdoor space there too.
Then for outdoor only venues there are shelters at both Greenfield Lake and Nodaway Lake Campgrounds. There are also shelters at the City Park. There is one covered picnic table at the Southside park now too, but would be a fun space as well. I don't believe there are fees for the outdoor shelters, but I'm not sure if you can "reserve" them officially either.
There is Stanzel Church too - I don't know anything about this church...maybe you have to be a member...There is also Fairview (I think, maybe) Church on the Stuart Road - I think they have a decent space too...I was there once for a wedding.
In Stuart my knowledge is pretty limited -
I believe the Wallace Building is available to rent (old NAPA store) Dave & Connie Wallace of Greenfield would be my best guess on who to contact.
There is the IOOF Hall; Jami Rafter would be who I would suggest contacting regarding that building - I don't know if you have to be a member or not.
They have The Saints Center - which is the old, refinished All Saint's Church. It is beautiful...I've seen it used for everything from family gatherings to weddings and prom. You can't go wrong with this location!
Then you have the Churches again, I think there are three in town...
I think there is a room at the Library/city hall you can rent maybe.
Then there is the Historic Depot - I believe Brenda Dudley is in charge of that still.
I think you can rent the play areas at both McDonald's and Burger King - I don't know if they close off to others though...that would be a good question. When we had one at BK a couple years ago & didn't reserve anything - it was just us.
Hey! Within minutes of my post I have updates!!!
I apologize! I totally forgot Bridgewater! I am SO sorry!!! They have two churches in town & The Bridgewater Activity Center & the community center & south of town in the Avondale Church - their park also has a FABULOUS Shelter as an outdoor venue. There is also the Morman Trail Lake - camping, park with shelter, and beach! I think you can also maybe rent the Bridgewater Cafe (or at least hold events like Bday parties there) and probably the bar too...Again I am SO sorry for forgetting the whole town! Seriously!!! I feel SO bad!
Then a friend messaged me that there is the Schaefer Barn in Adair. I know they have a Catholic Church Hall too...I think you can rent Zipp's Pizza maybe too :)
I hope that this is a good reference for everyone. I'm not opposed to people commenting here with additional information or corrections, but please be kind. I am just trying to help everyone out who keeps posting online looking for this information.
Keep warm my friends!
